MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Two thousand Filipino skilled workers are needed each year in Yukon territory in Canada, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Last August, DOLE and Yukon officials signed an agreement to hire 2,000 Filipino skilled workers. The Yukon is a territory in northern Canada with a population of 20,000. Among the skilled workers needed in the Yukon territory are nurses, engineers, heavy equipment or machine operators, chefs, and teachers, according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello. The monthly minimum wage is about P80,000.

According to Bello, he has already ordered Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) administrator Bernard Olalia to facilitate processing of Yukon workers.

In a statement, Olalia said a government-to-government track will send Filipino workers to the Yukon, which means POEA will handle the application hence successful applicants doesn’t need to pay any placement fee. Interested applicants can watch out for announcements on the POEA website as job orders are still being finalised.
